Mindfulness Meditation for Managing Chronic Pain and Promoting Wellness after SCI

Chronic pain is an unmistakable obstacle to wellbeing, but mindfulness meditation can be a way around it. Richard Berger, MD describes how through practice and patience, we can give ourselves a choice on how we experience pain. Mindfulness can give seasoned practitioners the self-awareness needed to foster a curious and non-judgmental relationship to their internal and external worlds. Dr. Berger also explains neuroplasticity, the scientific reasoning behind why mindfulness works, and leads the listeners on a brief meditative session.

They debunk myths about sexuality and disability, outline common barriers to fulfilling sex lives, provide tips for rediscovering your sexuality and fostering communication about sex with partners, potential partners, and health care providers.

ConnectAbility - The New SCI Assistive Technology Lab

Dr. Deborah Crane, MD, MPH introduces ConnectAbility, the new Assistive Technology Lab at Harborview Medical Center. The lab offers specialized evaluation and training with cutting edge technology to improve the lives of people with spinal cord injury. Experienced occupational and speech therapists offer individualized sessions to address unique barriers people face with daily living, returning to work and school, and improving quality of life. The AT Lab specializes in computer & phone access, smart home technology, adaptive gaming, and alternative communication software and devices.
