First SCI Wellness Summit Draws Large Audience of Consumers and Clinicians
More than 50 individuals with SCI, family members, caregivers, health professionals and students gathered to attend the first SCI Wellness Summit on October 22, 2011 at the University of Washington. A joint effort of the Rehabilitation Department’s SCI Forum and SCI Transitions and Wellness Program, the half-day symposium consisted of six presentations by UW rehabilitation medicine providers on these SCI-related topics: SCI basics; sexual health; pain and spasticity; health promotion and maintenance; recreation and transportation; and employment.
Between presentations, attendees mingled, enjoyed refreshments, perused information tables, and checked out the latest wheelchairs and other technology on display by equipment manufacturers and distributors who sponsored the event.
The presentations received high ratings on written evaluation forms, and many people commented that they enjoyed the opportunity to network with other attendees and to meet with equipment vendors.
