Presented on May 27, 2020
We know that people with SCI are at a high risk for cardiometabolic disease (which includes obesity, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol). But what can be done about it? What everyday choices can someone with SCI make to keep their heart and weight ideal and how can they stick with it? In this discussion, Dr. Katerina Radkevich, MD with the VA Puget Sound Health Care System explains how she tackles lifestyle changes with her patients and Elaine Stefanowicz shares her journey of using nutrition and exercise to regain control of her diabetes and high cholesterol without the use of medication. They describe the difficulties, successes, and sometimes surprising outcomes of achieving health goals.
